Job Description:

assesses, and treats musculoskeletal injuries and sports
concussions that present in the Sports Medicine Physician practice,
in consultation with and oversight from a physician. Provides
on-site home exercise instruction, splinting/bracing and
instructions, gait modification training, etc in accordance with
The Ohio Athletic Training Practice Act and Summa Health Medical
Group policy, procedures and protocols. Assists medical staff with
completing required medical documentation, statistics and other
administrative paperwork per Summa Health Medical Group policy and
at the request of the department/supervisor; Is a liaison between
the patients and medical team, provides patient education on the
care of injuries, home going instructions, monitoring of symptoms,
next steps, etc. Assists Summa Health Orthopaedics & Sports
Medicine with special events and additional coverage as needed.
Provides excellent patient care through the special skill set of an
athletic trainer that augments and supports the services of the
physicians and other health care providers; Provides efficient care
to the patient by utilizing a team approach that insures timely and
effective diagnosis and treatments, including immediate home
exercise instruction for the musculoskeletally injured patient;
Assists physicians in making appropriate rehabilitation referrals.
Minimum Qualifications: Formal Education Required: -Bachelor’s
Degree in athletic training . -Current license issued by the Ohio
OTPTAT Training Board to practice Athletic Training in the State of
Ohio -Certified by the Board of Certification, Inc. for athletic
trainers -Maintains AT license in good standing -CPR through the
American Heart Association for the Healthcare Provider (BLS)
Experience & Training Required: -Ability to communicate verbally
and in writing with physicians, patients, parents, administrators,
other hospital/medical staff and external publics -Competent in
computers as it relates to Microsoft Office, electronic medical
records, etc. -Ability to make effective presentations in front of
groups Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications: -Past
experience in a sports medicine and/or orthopaedic physician
practice a plus -Must be willing to travel and perform services at
various locations -Must be willing to work with persons with
disabilities -Independent, requiring minimal direction or requests
to assist while also seeking out opportunities to advance patient
care -Motivated, self starter – always looking to be productive and
helpful; always looking for avenues to expand the role of the
athletic trainer to better serve the patient -Critical thinking,
problem solver -Flexible to respond to change in environment,
schedule, patient type, processes. -Demonstrates
flexibility/adaptability in meeting environmental constraints and
demands placed on our service -Requires exposure to communicable
disease, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other
potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment
-Must be willing to acquire additional training/certifications
which will improve the operations of the physician practice; such
examples: casting/bracing, etc. Population Specific Competency:
-Ability to effectively interact with populations of
patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for
self-respect and dignity Level of Physical Demands: -Very Heavy:
Exerts in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in
excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20
pounds of force continuously to move objects. -Manual dexterity
sufficient to operate specialized equipment and fabricate pads,
splints, preventative taping/bracing, etc. $20.90/hr - $31.35/hr
The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary
exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as
years of relevant experience and geographical location are
considered when determining the starting rate of pay. We believe in
the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our
current team members when determining offers. Please keep in mind
that the range that is listed is the full base salary range. Hiring
at the maximum of the range would not be typical.
