Job Description:
Job Description Are you looking to become an OB Nurse at
Magnet-designated UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital? Securing a position
in the OB areas can be competitive and obtaining experience in a
Med Surg unit before starting in these departments can improve your
resume and chance of obtaining a position in an OB unit! Apply to
an Acute Care position today to get a strong foundation and begin
your career path to become an OB nurse. At UPMC Magee, we value
growth and development for our employees. We are looking for
graduate nurses interested in obtaining experience in our Acute
Care units and then advancing into our OB units. Beginning your
career in the Acute Care units will allow you to gain the basic
knowledge and skills as a new nurse and then expand on those skills
as you move into specialized units. By starting in an Acute Care
unit, we will implement preferential transfer to OB units as
positions become available. This transfer will be based on your
performance as well. You will be chosen for one unit - this is not
a float position between units. We have positions available for
Acute Care in the following departments: - Oncology (5800) is a
28-bed medical and surgical oncology unit caring for a variety on
oncology patients but specializing in gynecological cancer
treatments and surgical procedures such as hysterectomies,
mastectomies, Syed implants, and free flap/TRAM flap transplants.
Many of our patients are admitted to receive chemotherapy, and some
may require chemo desensitization. On our unit, we work with
negative pressure rooms, disability/bariatric rooms featuring
motorized lifts, and telemetry monitors. We consider strong
teamwork to be central to our success on 5800 and vital to caring
for our patients, and we boast a staff with a wide range of
experience. - Orthopedics (4100) is a 30-bed medical-surgical
orthopedic unit that primarily cares for patients who have
undergone elective surgeries such as hip and knee replacements, and
we also receive all of Magee’s post-op bariatric surgery patients.
We frequently use specialty orthopedic equipment such as continuous
passive motion machines and bed trapezes. This is a
patient-centered rehabilitative unit, a great environment for
someone who wants to be directly involved in rehab as well as care;
we also receive an overflow of general med-surg patients, making
4100 a perfect fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to build
broad knowledge and/or gain new experience. - Acute Care 3200 is a
24-bed medical-surgical telemetry unit that cares for a wide
variety of medical and post-op patients to include short stay
patients. Although we are a women’s hospital, we care for both
women and men in a compassionate, supportive, high-tech
environment, utilizing protocols to enable both patient and staff
safety. Our post-op patients may be recovering from orthopedic,
vascular, urological, gynecological, or bariatric surgeries. Due to
the wide variety of services, we offer and medical conditions we
see, 3200 is a great fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to
build broad knowledge and/or gain new experience. - Acute Care 5300
is a 28-bed medical-surgical unit that cares for a wide variety of
medical and post-op patients and serves as Magee’s stepdown unit.
We see an extremely diverse patient population, with ages ranging
from 15-100. Many patients receive insulin and/or Cardezim drips,
and all the unit’s 28 beds are housed in private rooms, each
hardwired for telemetry monitoring. Our post-op patients may be
recovering from orthopedic, vascular, urological, gynecological, or
bariatric surgeries; we also frequently receive overflow surgical
patients who do not have beds available on their specialty unit.
Due to the wide variety of services, we offer and medical
conditions we see, 5300 is a great fit for graduate nurses and
nurses seeking to build broad knowledge and/or gain new experience.
